2017 Fall Campout

Camp Green Dickson

Shiner, TX 77984

  • October 27-29

  • Near Gonzales, Texas (between Gonzales and Shiner - Roughly 2 hour drive from Austin)

  • 335 Acres of BSA Camping

  • If you do not wish to camp overnight you can come for day time Pack Games and activities.

IMPORTANT CAMPOUT RULES AND REGULATIONS

  • Everyone must have a completed Medical Form parts A and B (they expire after 1 year) - BRING YOURS WITH YOU TO CAMP if you haven't already turned it in

  • Scouts must be assigned to a responsible adult who will be present at camp the entire time

  • Two-deep leadership required at all times

  • Scout buddy system required at all times (no Scouts are allowed to wander off without a buddy)

  • No adult may share a tent with a person of the opposite sex unless he or she is that adult’s spouse.

  • No youth may share a tent with an adult or a person of the opposite sex other than a family member or guardian.

  • Assigning youth members more than two years apart in age to sleep in the same tent should be avoided unless the youth are relatives.

PROHIBITED ITEMS

  • Electronics for kids (parents are also asked to minimize use)

  • Alcoholic beverages or controlled substances

  • Tobacco use in camp (If an adult needs to smoke, they must do it away from camp out and out of sight)

  • Use of knives by Scouts who do not have their Whittling Chip

  • Use of axes or hatchets by Scouts (regardless of Whittling Chip)

  • Pets or animals as they are not part of tours or activities in Scouting

  • RV's/trailers (this is a tent-only campout)

  • Generators

  • Concealed or unconcealed firearms, fireworks, or explosives

TRAVEL

Directions to Camp Green Dickson. Travel time is approximately 2 hours from Round Rock.

SETUP

We will have setup starting Friday night around 5pm. Suggested packing list found in the Pack Resource Library.

ACTIVITIES

  • Morning Hike

  • Den Lunch

  • Pumpkin Carving

  • Pack Games

  • Trick or Treat

  • Campfire

MEALS

  • Friday night, Saturday Morning, and Sunday Morning are "on your own"

  • Saturday lunch is a den-planned activity

  • Saturday dinner is provided by the Pack - please mention any dietary restrictions when you sign up

CAMPFIRE

At campfire, each den will perform a skit. Leaders/Akelas help your scouts with this. Ideas can be found here.

An email will be sent out before the campout with a more detailed agenda. Depending on the volunteer sign-up, there may also be the always enjoyed NIGHT GAMES!

FACILITIES

Camp Green Dickson is a Boy Scout Camp with water and latrines at each camp site and a centralized bathroom facility. There is no electricity at the camp sites. Please do not bring generators.
